Feed The Need of Putnam County: Feeding Children

Our Vision

Feed the Need of Putnam County's vision is to ensure that no child in the community goes hungry, particularly over the weekends when school-provided meals aren't available. We aim to alleviate food insecurity among students, providing them with consistent access to nutritious meals, so they can focus on learning and thriving.

Our Approach

Feed the Need of Putnam County's approach focuses on gathering donations and working with local volunteers to pack and distribute weekend food bags to food-insecure students. They partner with schools to identify children in need and provide easy-to-prepare, nutritious meals. The organization collaborates with the community through food drives, donations, and partnerships to sustain its efforts and reach as many students as possible.

Our History

Feed the Need of Putnam County has achieved significant milestones since its inception:

  • Serving Over 800 Students Weekly: The organization provides weekend food to over 800 food-insecure students during the school year.
  • 501(c)(3) Status: In 2018, Feed the Need became a registered non-profit, allowing for expanded support and operations.
  • Community Engagement: The program has successfully partnered with local schools, businesses, churches, and community members to gather donations and organize food drives.
  • Sustained Growth: Since starting in 2016, the organization has grown to serve more schools and families each year.

These accomplishments reflect their dedication to fighting food insecurity in Putnam County.

Our Impact

At Feed the Need of Putnam County, we are dedicated to ensuring that no child in our community goes hungry. Our weekend backpack program and school pantries provide essential food for children who might otherwise go without meals when school is not in session.

One heartbreaking moment that fuels our mission was when a local teacher found a child eating grass on the playground because they had nothing else to eat. No child should ever experience such desperation, and that’s why we work tirelessly to provide food to those who need it most.

By the Numbers:

✅ 11 School Pantries stocked with nutritious food for students in need.
✅ Thousands of Meals Provided through weekend backpacks and emergency food support.
✅ Community-Powered: Every donation and volunteer effort helps us reach more children.

With your support, we can continue to ensure that no child in Putnam County faces hunger. Join us in making a difference today!

Why Putnam County Schools?

In Putnam County, FL, 27.8% of the population, or 17,700 out of 71,200 people, live below the poverty line. This percentage is significantly higher than the national average of 13.1%, highlighting the challenges faced by many residents in the area.

Additionally, 100% of the 10,000 students in the Putnam County School District qualify for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a program that provides school meals at no cost to the students. This initiative is crucial in ensuring that every child in the district has access to nutritious meals, despite the high levels of poverty in the community.
