What is Feed the Need’s impact on the Putnam County School District with food and other items supplied throughout the school year?
Feed the Need provides food to students in need through grants, donations, fundraisers, food drives, and food rescue efforts. Currently, we serve 800 students across 11 schools each week. The average cost of basic staple food sent home weekly is $8 per student. See the breakdown below:
• Backpack Program: $8 per student x 800 students weekly = $6,400 per week
- Over 36 school weeks = $230,400 per year
- 28,800 backpack bags distributed = 72,000 meals
• Feeding Northeast Florida Bags: $81,000 annually
• Summer Program: Snacks and drinks for 1,000+ students weekly = $10,000
• Additional Weekly Food Support: Extra staples like peanut butter, jelly, and canned protein
- $2 per student x 800 students = $1,600 per week
- Over 18 weeks = $28,800
• Interlachen High School Culinary Arts Support:
- Weekly donations of meat, dairy, and produce = $1,000 per week
- Over 36 weeks = $36,000 per year
